AM004: Special Juneteenth broadcast
For the fourth broadcast of Acoustic Mirror, we choose the date of 19.6.20. This date is also known as Juneteenth or Black Independence Day. This date represents the day in which Slaves in Texas were read the Emancipation Proclamation. For this broadcast and on this date all proceeds generated from the performance will go to fighting systemic racism and to defund the police by supporting Black Youth In Action (BYIA) / JEUNESSE NOIRE EN ACTION (JNEA).
Luke Stewart (DC/NYC)
DC/NYC-based musician and organizer. As a solo artist, his recent focus is in compiling a series of improvisational sound structures for Upright Bass and Amplifier, utilizing the resonant qualities of the instrument to explore real-time harmonic and melodic possibilities.
Steve bates (ca)
Steve Bates is an artist and musician currently living in Saskatoon, Treaty 6 Territory, and the Homeland of the Métis. The sonic is the starting point for his projects which are evocations of communication networks and systems or expressions of spatial and temporal experience. He works in the field, on the air, in museological/gallery and performance contexts. These shifting territories reflect the content of his practice.
